A Glimpse of the Tail
Instinctively, Martha yanked the sink stopper to drain the water. As the murky water spiraled down, she stared into the depths, waiting. Just as the water level dropped low enough, she caught a glimpse—what looked like a thin, tapering tail slithered swiftly down the drain and vanished. Her blood ran cold.
With a scream, Martha flung the plate in her hands, which crashed into pieces on the floor. She jumped backward, heart pounding and breath short. There was no denying it this time. A snake had just brushed against her skin—and it was still inside the house. Before she could react further, the tail appeared again, this time more clearly.
