Moments later, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the hallway. Two responders entered the kitchen, both dressed in dark uniforms and wearing thick protective gloves. They carried a containment box and specialized tools, their movements efficient but cautious. There was something in their eyes—professionalism mixed with genuine curiosity and concern.
“We’re here to help,” one of them said firmly, offering George a reassuring nod. Martha’s arms trembled as relief washed over her, but so did a new wave of dread—what if this wasn’t enough? “Thank goodness,” she whispered, barely audible. George stepped back, gesturing toward her. “This is Martha,” he explained quickly. “We need to secure this thing immediately.”
