PETER PARKER HAS COMPETITION
Before superhero enthusiasts claim there’s no Spider-Woman, they should first take a look at the comics. In the comic books, a Spider-Woman absolutely exists, and the name is used by several women in the Marvel comic universe. The first Spider-Woman was Jessica Drew, a woman whose father injected her with a serum containing spider blood in order to save her life.
Julia Carpenter also took on the role of Spider-Woman, while Gwen Stacy assumed this position in an alternate universe. Given the popularity of the “Spider-Man” comics, the creators were concerned that someone might steal their idea and create a Spider-Woman. Therefore, they decided to protect their interests by introducing a Spider-Woman themselves.
