Color-Coded Expiry Dates
Those sell-by, best-before, and use-by labels? They’re not all created equal. Many supermarkets rely on color-coded sticker systems to prioritize stock rotation. That’s why two identical yogurt cups may have different shelf placements—staff move the oldest ones to the front and the newer stock deep into the back.
Some employees even use tricks like subtle corner tags or dot codes to denote age, which most consumers never notice. The result? You unknowingly grab the older product. If you’re determined to get the freshest item, always reach toward the back—and don’t trust the top layer.
