Going to the toilet was a whole different experience
In ancient Rome, going to the toilet was a social activity. People would sit side-by-side on public benches, without partitions, while chatting casually. Toilet paper didn’t exist either — they used sticks wrapped in cloth, leaves, or even sponges.
Today, all of that seems both unhygienic and extremely embarrassing to us. And what about the poor souls in charge of cleaning those public latrines? Probably one of the worst jobs in history.
