Freshening Breath with Urine
These days, a simple spray of minty mouthwash does the trick after a garlicky meal. But back in the 18th century, they used a far more stomach-churning method: urine. Thanks to its ammonia content, it was believed to disinfect the mouth and whiten teeth.
This practice didn’t just pop up overnight; the Romans were already firm believers. And while it might have worked in theory, the thought of rinsing your mouth with urine makes you want to throw up these days. Thankfully, oral hygiene has come a long way since then.
