Strange Beginnings
The Johnsons had no idea they were about to embark on something far beyond a typical pet adoption. As they drove home, Nyx lay quietly in the backseat, watching the scenery with an alert calmness that caught Mrs. Johnson’s attention. “He’s more relaxed than I expected,” she remarked. Mr. Johnson replied, “Yeah, he’s settling in well already,” pleased by the smooth transition.
Meanwhile, the kids talked nonstop about walks, games, and adventures they’d have with their new companion. Everything seemed normal during the drive home, yet beneath the surface, something unusual was unfolding.
