Under the Microscope

Meanwhile, in the back room, Dr. Morgan was hard at work. He placed the fur sample under a high-powered microscope, adjusting the lens to get a clearer view. The structure of the fur was strange—more complex than anything he was used to seeing. He typed in characteristics into a database and waited, tapping his pen against the counter.

“This doesn’t look right,” he mumbled, frowning at the sample. The symmetrical pattern, the unusual texture—none of it aligned with what he’d expect from a Cane Corso. He hit “search” again, watching the screen intently, unsure if he was looking at a mutation or something entirely different.
