Unsettling Events Begin
Just as Nyx’s behavior intensified, strange things started happening around the neighborhood. At night, the family heard growls in the distance and heavy rustling outside the windows that didn’t sound like ordinary wildlife. Mr. Johnson brought it up at breakfast: “Did anyone else hear those noises last night?” The kids exchanged glances, both nodding silently.
Mrs. Johnson tried to ease the tension. “It’s probably raccoons or stray dogs,” she offered, though she didn’t sound convinced. The unsettling noises began occurring more frequently, each one adding to the feeling that something unseen was drawing closer to their home—and to Nyx.
