A Global Threat
Snakes are globally dangerous creatures, claiming approximately 100,000 lives each year. The primary cause of death is venom, with some species capable of causing death within hours of a bite. There have also been rare reports of large pythons swallowing people whole.
Children in regions with inadequate medical care are particularly vulnerable. Antivenom is expensive, costing around 50,000 to 60,000 yen per dose, which is equivalent to several years’ income for residents in affected areas. Even when a means to save lives exists, it remains out of reach for many.
